Exclusion Policy

Children and employees with any one of the following symptoms will not be permitted to be dropped off, or if the symptoms develop during the day, they will need to be picked up as soon as possible. While we regret any inconvenience that this may cause, we enforce this policy to protect all children in our care, as well as the teachers, from exposure to communicable diseases.

  • Fever of 99.8 or higher, even with no other symptoms within the past 48 hours (at home or at school)

  • Complaining or seeming to have ear pain

  • Headache and signs of irritability

  • Sore throat

  • Fatigue, or unable to keep up with daily activities

  • Excessive coughing

  • Vomiting on 2 or more occasions within the past 48 hours (at home or at school)

  • Diarrhea 3 times in the last 48 hours (at home or at school)

  • Bloody stool

  • Eye discharge that is continuous with pink-to-red eye color, swelling around the eye, or pain. If a child is diagnosed with conjunctivitis (pink eye), they can return 24 hours after starting antibiotics. If no antibiotics are prescribed, a doctor's note stating when they can return.

  • Open or oozing sores

  • Suspected communicable skin infections (i.e. impetigo or scabies). If diagnosed, the child can return after 24 hours of being on antibiotics, or with a note from a doctor stating when they can return.

  • Lice or nits. Children must complete louse treatments and be completely free of any lice and nits.

Temperature Checks & Sanitizer:

Every child and employee who enters the Center must have their temperature checked at the door and use hand sanitizer upon arrival.

Face Masks and Coverings:

All employees and children 5 years of age and over must wear a facemask while in attendance.  Eating, drinking, and physical activities are the exceptions.

First Years follows the Bainbridge School District for inclement weather decisions, with the exeption if our staff can't make it in.  In that case we aren't able to open.  Below is a link to their website to reference.
